Donna’s garden is on a sloping block which meant that the rambling permaculture garden required terracing. The design includes planted landscaping tanks and ponds. The front garden area transitions from bush foods to fruit trees and then vegetable growing beds. Perennial herbs, flowering bulbs and medicinal plants are scattered throughout. This is Donna’ s 3rd year of being involved in the Edible Garden Trail.
Below Donna’s house, there are a variety of plants that perform as nutrient accumulators, such as vetiver, lemongrass, arrowroot, and sugarcane. It also includes my elder and banana circle, both of which also benefit from the adjoining chook run. Donna’s “girls” are an essential element of her Permaculture system.
Donna’s garden ticks all the boxes and is an outstanding example of the Permaculture Principles of Using Biological Resources, Efficient Energy
Planning and Diversity.
