This stunning community garden was awarded ‘Community Champion’ last year by Community Gardens Australia! Beautifully laid out, it is a really relaxing and peaceful place to visit, and visitors are welcomed, seven days a week.
There are a few garden plots available to lease, though 75% of the plots are already rented out and all are thriving under the guidance of the garden’s coordinator and her talented team of volunteers. Plenty of compost is made on site – using horse manure (from across the road) and chicken poo from the very cute free ranging chickens along with plenty of other organic matter.
A sensory herb garden and perennials bed welcomes you into the garden, along with some mature dragon fruit plants and lots of flowers. Out the back there are dozens of productive garden beds, including a number of wicking beds provided by The Heartland Foundation, whose purpose is to advance social and public welfare by helping families in rural, regional and isolated communities. These wicking beds have been set up and planted out by the foundation in the garden grounds and are tended to by the community garden team, with all the food going to the Central Coast’s food banks.
These tranquil gardens are used by many different community groups during the week, for a range of craft and other activities.
Doyalson Community Garden will be selling refreshments during the trail. They also have toilets on site.
