The garden is a vibrant blend of function and beauty, nestled on a sloping block with a series of terraced beds. Each level has been carefully designed to take full advantage of the slope, creating an intricate yet harmonious flow. The terracing helps manage the gradient while maximising growing space for both food and ornamental plants.
The garden reflects its owners’ diverse passions—a plant scientist and an artist—where science meets creativity. The edible landscape is abundant with citrus trees—lemons, oranges, limes amongst others—lining the terraces. A clump of bananas stand tall next to a compost system and a worm farm that are used to recycle kitchen and garden waste. Leafy greens, tomatoes, zucchini, beans and other seasonal vegetables thrive in a protected mesh garden-room safe from birds and wandering chickens and possums. Herbs like basil, thyme, and rosemary grow freely around the edges of a pool to pond conversion, which also provides water for irrigating food crops.
The pond is a focal point, surrounded by ornamental grasses, palms and water-loving plants. including watercress, Vietnamese mint and water celery. The pond is not only a calming visual element but also serves as a habitat for frogs and other beneficial wildlife, bringing balance to the garden ecosystem.
Chickens wander freely, pecking at the ground and producing eggs. Their coop, tucked away on one side of the garden, is camouflaged by climbing choko, cherry tomatoes and passionfruit. The garden is a peaceful, living work of art, where every corner surprises with a thoughtful combination of beauty and productivity, all set against a backdrop of lush greenery and terraced levels. It is a space that nurtures both the mind and the body, constantly evolving as the seasons change.
