Terrigal Uniting Permaculture Patch (TUPP)

The Terrigal Uniting Permaculture Patch (TUPP) was established on land owned by the Terrigal Uniting Church in June 2023. It operates as a community garden using permaculture principles to the best of our knowledge and ability. In the short space of eighteen months we have built seven raised garden beds, a long hugelkultur (a mound for planting), composting bays and a small shed. We have a worm farm to provide fertiliser. We have landscaped stairs into the slope. The garden was designed by Paul Buckley to harness the water flow on the slope.

Story

The Terrigal Uniting Permaculture Patch (TUPP) was established on land owned by the Terrigal Uniting Church in June 2023. It operates as a community garden using permaculture principles to the best of our knowledge and ability. Some members are from the church, and some are from the general community. Everyone is welcome and we learn from each other.

In the short space of eighteen months we have built seven raised garden beds, a long hügelkultur (a mound for planting), composting bays and a small shed. We also have a worm farm to provide fertiliser. The garden was designed by Paul Buckley to harness the water flow on the slope.

We have had one full year of harvests. By May our winter crop of snow peas, cabbages, cauliflowers and other winter vegetables should be in an advanced stage. All garden beds are shared with produce shared between the gardeners and also made available to the public through the church Repair Cafe on the last Saturday of each month.

In the future we hope to facilitate information sessions on various aspects of permaculture gardening. Our biggest challenge is controlling weeds.

On the day of the Edible Garden Trail we will have potted vegetables and other permaculture friendly plants for sale and possibly some garden produce.

Safety

The site is on a slope. There are good steps at one end and a road at the other to traverse the two levels. It is not, however, accessible by wheelchair or walker.

Tour Times

At this stage we will not offer a specific tour. We are very happy to answer any questions visitors have and to walk around explaining the various features.
