The Terrigal Uniting Permaculture Patch (TUPP) operates as a community garden and was established in June 2023 on land owned by the Terrigal Uniting Church . We use permaculture principles to the best of our knowledge and ability. Some members are from the church, and some are from the general community. Everyone is welcome and we learn from each other.
In the short space of twenty months we have built seven raised garden beds, a long hügelkultur (a mound for planting), composting bays and a small shed. We also have a worm farm to provide fertiliser. The garden was designed by Paul Buckley to harness the water flow on the slope.
We have had one full year of harvests. By May our second winter crop of snow peas, cabbages, cauliflowers and other winter vegetables should be in an advanced stage. All garden beds are shared between the gardeners and produce is made available to the public through the church Repair Cafe on the last Saturday of each month.
The church’s bush tucker trail will also be available for visitors. The path is around 50m long with various labelled edible plants. This is, in essence, a fairly mature food forest that includes finger limes, Davidson Plum, Dianella, Native Guava, Macleay Laurel, Native Pepper and many more.
In the future we hope to facilitate information sessions on various aspects of permaculture gardening. Our biggest challenge is controlling weeds.
On the day of the Edible Garden Trail we will have potted vegetables and other permaculture friendly plants for sale and possibly some garden produce (pumpkin). Please bring cash as we don’t have an eftpos facility.
