This beautiful and productive garden is 5 years old and continues to be developed. Featuring an ingenious and attractive crop protection system, espalier fruit trees, herbs and vegetables, the terraced beds take advantage of the north facing slope and improves access to the garden.
Starting with no discernible topsoil for beds, soil has been built up over the seasons. Tony and Teresa have 20 dwarf fruit trees, as well as native food plants, perennial herbs and terraced garden beds. The striking feature is a “sculptural” garden enclosure of repurposed water pipe covering about 90 square metres of beds and fruit trees, which protects the produce from all sorts of would-be diners. Much of the landscaping has been done via the creative repurposing of a large old concrete water tank which was demolished to build housing in the village.
Tony and Teresa’s Garden effectively presents the Permaculture Principals of Relative Location and Efficient Energy Planning.
