Ukuzala

Ukuzala works within the permaculture principles and showcases a large mandala garden and extensive food forest which are both productive and extremely attractive. Over the past 5 years it has grown to include exclusion tunnels, hot and shade houses, espalier fruit trees, additional water tanks, a native beehive and much more. Story

This 5 year old garden is a great example of a dream turned reality through family and community. Ukuzala is a small acreage in Killcare Heights cared for by a team of passionate, like-minded people on a journey to create, grow, teach, learn and assist.
Working within permaculture principles the garden features a 14m diameter mandala garden created in August 2020. Over the years it has grown to include exclusion tunnels, hot and shade houses, espalier fruit trees, additional water tanks, a native bee hive and much more.
With successes and challenges, the team (including wonderful volunteers) never stops moving forward, implementing new ideas and creating new systems.
Look out for the banana circle, beneficial plantings, a huge pond that has increased biodiversity across the site, and the bush regeneration happening in the wooded areas of the property.
We are continually focusing on improving the soil naturally using our green prunings and hold weekly working bee’s where our volunteers collect food scraps from local grocers to create our compost pile’s. This saves food waste from landfill which helps to reduce greenhouse gases.
Ukuzala will be open Sunday from 9.30 – 4pm
Arnie’s Espresso Bar located at the front of the property will be open with extended hours for the Edible Trail.
There will be filtered water onsite. BYO water bottle. Keep cups encouraged!
